“This is not the Peter Pan you remember from your childhood,” Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis warned viewers during the Season 3 premiere event.
When we left The Storybrooke Gang last season Henry had been kidnapped and taken to Neverland by Greg and Tamara. Emma and company was hot on their heels in Hook’s pirate ship (see what they did there?) and even Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin was leary about who was waiting for them .
Turns out Tamara and Greg got duped into thinking that they were working for “the home office” that was responsible for destroying magic. But, it was actually Peter Pan that tricked them into bringing Henry to him. In one of the premiere’s biggest surprises both Greg and Tamara are killed off within the first 10 minutes!
Henry is on the run from The Lost Boys when he runs into another boy who is hiding from Peter Pan as well for stealing some pixie dust from him. He helps Henry dodge Pan’s cronies and is taking him to The Echo Caves where they will not be able to be traced.
Back on the boat Mr. Gold has transformed back into The Dark One and abandons Emma, Snow, Charming, Regina and Hook to go and find Peter Pan himself. After he leaves the group runs into some trouble with a gang of mermaids (not Ariel…yet.) After Regina casts a spell and chases them off they discover that they have one caught in their net. She casts a spell that produces a storm that those on the boat can control by how well they are getting along. The more they fight and argue the more violent and rough the sea and storm gets. Emma discovers they are the cause of the storm and if they don’t stop fighting they will die. She jumps off the boat in order to stop the others from fighting. In the process she is hit with debris off the boat and almost drowns.
Oh yeah, remember Neal? Of course you do. Well, he survived the gunshot from Tamara and was transported back through the portal to The Enchanted Forest. Ironic seeing as that was the one place he never wanted to return to. He is found by Aurora, Philip and Mulan. He tells them that he knows Emma and Mary Margaret and that they need help. He thinks that if he is to go into his dad’s (Rumplestiltskin) castle there will be magic there that will get him to Neverland.
While he is in the castle Robin Hood is there…and he’s really yummy looking. But, he is acting as a sort of guard while Rumple is gone. We will hopefully be seeing more of him as this season progresses.
Meanwhile in Neverland we get a little bit of a glimpse into the past of Rumple/Peter. Mr. Gold is in the forest of Neverland when a lost boy approaches him and offers him an ultimatum. He says that Peter welcomes him but, if he is looking for Henry he is once again an enemy. Where have they met before? Well they definitely have because The Lost Boy pulls out a tiny doll that makes Mr. Gold start to cry…
Henry and the boy who is helping him navigate Neverland come upon a cliff and are slowly being corned by The Lost Boys. In an act of desperation Henry takes the pixie dust that the boy swears doesn’t work. “Everyone knows that pixie dust only works if you believe,” Henry tells him and he sprinkles it on them and they are flying off the cliff. They land safely on the other side and Henry discovers that the boy who has been helping him is none other than THE Peter Pan (played by British actor Robbie Kay). He tricked Henry this whole time. He said he has been searching for “the heart of the truest believer” and when he saw Henry use the pixie dust he knew he had found it.
So what lies in store for Henry and the rest of the Storybrooke gang? Why can Peter Pan make Mr. Gold cry? Who will be the new characters introduced? Will Emma and Neal get back together? How many times do we get to see Robin Hood?! So many questions from just one episode…I can’t wait for next sunday!
Rose McIver has been cast to play Tinkerbell! What do you think of the casting choice??
