Chicago Fire Recap – What Comes Next (9×14)

Chicago Fire/ NBC

On tonight’s explosive new episode of Chicago Fire, a pet food factory fire sets Casey and Severide on an investigation, Kidd takes the lieutenants test, and Firehouse 51 prepares for a garage sale.

While Kidd takes the test, the crew is sent out on a call of a pet food factory that’s on fire. Severide attempts to rescue the owner, Pete, first, but he insists he save his wife instead.

The wife is rescued in a valiant effort from Gallo, who climbs up the building by himself using a ladder and hoisting it up.

Upon their return to the firehouse, some of the burns on the equipment look like chemical burns, setting the team to investigate the case of the week: what chemicals are in that factory? Upon investigation from hazmat, there was nothing conclusive that said there were dangerous chemicals inside. With Pete’s help, they conclude that people have been dumping waste and trash near the factory because the city won’t work to clean up the area. As a result, a barrel of sulfuric acid is what caused the fire and the burns on the firehouse equipment.

Turns out, an organic food company was using sulfuric acid to make fertilizer, then illegally dumping it so they didn’t have to pay any fees. Naturally, the driver who dumped it fled. However, Severide and Casey found the barrels in the organic food company allowing them to make the arrest.

It’s Ritter and Gallo’s first CFD garage sale, and Mouch, Herrmann, and Capp show them the ropes of pricing things and appropriately selling them. As pointless as it was, I found it quite hilarious that Ritter was swindled by an old lady to lower the price of a speaker. The biggest mistake happened when Mouch accidentally sold Sylvie’s cat, but it left Sylvie incredibly happy since she never liked the cat but didn’t necessarily want to get rid of it.

On this week’s edition of “ew, that’s insanely gross,” Sylvie and Violet helped rescue a dentist’s patient whose teeth mold quite literally glued his mouth shut.

Boden informed Kidd that she passed the lieutenants test, and Severide confided in Casey that he was thinking of proposing to his now-lieutenant girlfriend! It would be great to see the two of them finally tie the knot after being together for so long.

My biggest problem with tonight’s episode? Not enough time spent on Kidd. This whole season has built up for a powerful woman of color to climb the ranks of the Chicago Fire Department, but the storyline was put to the side for the case of the week.

Casey and Severide have been solving cases like these for the past nine seasons, I think they could’ve taken a break so that we could see this moment happen for Kidd. Even the plot about Sylvie’s cat had more screen time than anything regarding Kidd and her test results.

I think it was a waste of a tease to barely have Kidd in the episode at all, and even when she was around, she was just sitting around waiting for the results until the end. What’s the point of having her study, prepare, and build her character if they weren’t going to even utilize her when it mattered the most? She’s a fantastic character, arguably one of the best in the show, and it just seemed that her talents weren’t properly used.

Chicago PD Recap Season 10 Episode 16 Deadlocked

It’s finally happening—our favorite One Chicago shows are coming home to us!

Chihards, mark your calendars and get ready to sit down in front of the TV on January 17 because that’s when Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will make their highly-anticipated and long-awaited premieres!

It’s truly beginning to feel a lot like Christmas… though I hope that turning around new episodes doesn’t mean that the actors will have to work through the holidays.

Chicago Med returns for season 9, Fire for season 12, and Med for season 11.

Of course, the full NBC 2024 lineup will kick off on Jan 1 with America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League, which means they are wasting no time getting back into the swing of things following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike delays.

Law & Order franchises will have their moment on Thursday, Jan 18 with Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Part 1 of The Voice returns on Feb. 26, along with BC’s new Deal or No Deal spinoff, Deal or No Deal Island.

La Brea will air its final season on Jan 9, leading into the final two episodes of Found. The Irrational will also air its final four episodes starting Monday, Jan. 29.

Quantum Leap and Magnum P.I., Lopez vs. Lopez, The Weakest Link, Password, That’s My Jam and The Wall currently don’t have a premiere date.

It’s time to get back to the magic of TV!

When Will ‘Chicago Fire’ Return? Here’s When Season 12 Kicks Off Filming

Published

Fans have been patiently waiting for the 12th season of Chicago Fire, which was announced back in April by NBC.

The network renewed all three of the One Chicago shows at the time, including Chicago PD for season 11 and Chicago Med for season 9.

Typically, new seasons of the dramas would’ve started in September as part of the network’s fall lineup, however, production on the shows was significantly delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The writers’ strike ended a bit before the actors’ strike, which meant that the writing staff was able to get back to work penning the scripts in October, however, things remained at a standstill until the SAG-AFTRA union negotiated a promising contract with the studios and allowed actors to get back to making shows and movies.

Thankfully, with the strikes officially over, the shows are back in business.

According to a Chicago Fire Extras post on Facebook, the drama set at Firehouse 51 will be kicking off filming on Monday, Nov. 27!

And that means that we’re on track to get new episodes of the 12th season in 2024 as a premiere date has been announced as Wednesday, January 17.

With Chicago Fire back in business, it’s safe to say the sister shows are following suit—and we’ll have new episodes to watch sooner rather than later.

CBS already unveiled its lineup for regularly scheduled programming, beating out all the other networks to the announcement, but if theirs is anything to go by, new content will be landing as soon as February. Some of your favorite sitcoms and dramas on CBS, including the NCIS franchise, Ghosts, and the FBI shows, will all be kicking off after the Super Bowl.

‘Chicago PD’ Shakeup: Tracy Spiridakos Leaving After Season 11

And the good news is that Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide is making a comeback after a ten-month hiatus. Back in January, the actor announced a personal leave of absence from the series, but fans are surely eager to see him back on the firefighter drama once again!
