‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 Most Exciting Storyline Doesn’t Involve Emily

I know the show is called Emily in Paris, and I know we’re supposed to care the most about Emily’s love life, but the Netflix series found something brilliant between Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and Mindy (Ashley Park)—and man, I wish they fostered it more.

There are spoilers ahead, so stop reading if you haven’t watched!

Are Mindy and Alfie Dating on Emily in Paris Season 5?

I’m, of course, talking about the unexpected hook-up between Alfie and Mindy. When it was first teased in the Emily in Paris season 5 trailer, it caught fans by complete surprise, naturally, as there was never any indication that these two would find themselves in bed together.

However, the moment it happened on screen, I found myself wondering how none of us saw it before.

The chemistry between the duo was undeniable and electric, but best of all, they brought out the best in each other.

It was the most exciting storyline on Emily in Paris this season (and it was a great season, all around)—and not just because it was forbidden.

Even when the duo wasn’t sneaking around, the relationship prospect was exciting. Emily didn’t see it at first, and finding out was a huge blow, but she wasn’t as upset about the fact that they got together as she was at the fact that they kept it from her. There was a fear that if Emily found out, she wouldn’t approve, with Mindy concerned about girl code. They are honest fears, but the thing is that you can’t help who you fall in love with. Emily knows that all too well, and she’s navigated messy love triangles before, so she would’ve eventually understood.

Alfie was more invested than Mindy, and I think she wanted to keep it light and playful out of respect to Emily, but she didn’t realize how quickly and deeply she’d fallen for him.

Of course, Emily was a thought when the duo pursued their romance, but it didn’t involve her, nor did it center around her or her love life, for what seemed like the first time in the show’s history.

Mindy and Alfie’s Romance Bubble Bursts

My biggest issue with this storyline, unfortunately, is that the series didn’t commit to it.

If you’re going to jump the gun and put the leads ex and best friend in a hot and heavy relationship, you better be totally and completely in. See it all the way through!

Instead, the minute things were going to get real and Alfie was going to break the news to Emily, Mindy bolted. And suddenly, we all just forgave Nico for destroying her chances at Eurovision and just being a terrible person all around.

Nico’s return was jarring, sure, but it was even more jarring how quickly Mindy forgave him, moved on and let him back into her life. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I know she loved him, but because she loved him, the betrayal hurt that much more.

I while I don’t agree with Alfie because I do believe people can change, but I also believe people have to earn their second chance.

The moment Nico came back into her life, Mindy just pretended that she had no feelings for Alfie, even though every single time they were alone together, it was evident that there was a deeper connection there.

Was she scared because it felt so real?

Of course, the relationship complicated things in a way that makes for great television, plus it kept Mindy in Marcello and Emily’s orbit with the launch of his fashion line, but it also feels like such a a cop out.

And not only that, but Nico proposed to Mindy, and she didn’t hesitate to say yes. It’s a pretty fantasy, I get it, but the reality is that she’s in complete denial and too afraid to face her real feelings, be it because of Emily or because she’s always imagined a future with Nico.

There’s no way Emily and Alfie will ever find their way back to each other, as there doesn’t seem to be any sparks left between them, so the only path forward to honor Alfie is to see it through with Mindy.

And truthfully, if Emily isn’t with Marcello, nothing is tying her to the Muratori fashion company. He’s just a distant memory, which means Mindy can call it off with Nico and likely never have to see him again.

Alfie is a chapter in Emily’s life, buthe should be the happy ending in Mindy’s.

I’m willing to bet that Emily in Paris Season 6—when renewed—will deliver on Alfie’s warning that Nico is not to be trusted, and she’ll find herself in Alfie’s arms once again.

I wish it happened with less drama, because Emily in Paris landed on something extremely valuable when they decided to explore this relationship, but if they find their way back in the end, I guess that’s all that matters.

What did you think of Mindy and Alfie? Did you like them together?

When Is The Way Home Season 4 Coming to Netflix?

The Way Home Season 4 is officially available on Netflix starting today, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.

Will There Be a The Way Home Season 5?

Sadly, there is no news about a fifth season of The Way Home.

Many hoped that after Hallmark prematurely cancelled the series, which was intended to run five seasons, Netflix would swoop in and save it, especially after it got such a huge boost following its addition to the streamer.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any confirmation that Netflix is interested in another season—though the cast has expressed interest if the opportunity presented itself.

Maybe following the success of season 4 on Netflix, the streamer will have a change of heart?

You can see what the creators had in mind for a fifth season right here.

2 Fan-Favorite Dramas Were Unexpectedly Cancelled This Week at Both Netflix and Prime Video—And It’s Concerning

Ride or Die and Sweet Magnolias Canceled

It’s been a brutal week for fans of two TV shows across Netflix and Prime Video.

Netflix cancelled Sweet Magnolias, ending the show’s five-season run, while Prime Video hit its newest action-drama Ride or Die with an abrupt and unexpected end.

Sweet Magnolias series creator and showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson paid tribute to the show on Instagram, writing: “Living in Serenity for five seasons has been a privilege and a blessing. The people I’ve met and worked with — our incredible writers, cast, crew, executives, and producers — have touched my heart and changed my life. And our fans have been amazing in their passion for our characters. Thank you all. Though our journey has sadly come to an end, I hope Serenity will always have a place in your heart. Keep pouring it out!”

The series, a feel-good romantic drama set in a small Southern town called Serenity, based on the book series by Sherryl Woods, followed three best friends—Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliot) and Helen (Heather Headley), as they navigated romance, family dynamics, careers, personal goals and dreams, and more with grace. It was a comfy, small-town series that felt like home more and more with each passing season, which is what makes the cancellation sting so much.

There’s not enough pouring it out to make it make sense, though; the dip in traffic each season is likely the reason behind Netflix’s decision, as viewership dropped 30% in the last season, per Deadline. It marked a much more severe drop-off than the one seen in Seasons 3 and 4, with only a 13% dip, as many fans complained there wasn’t enough advertising to make fans aware there even was a new season available in the first place.

Meanwhile, Prime Video pulled the plug on the Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham thriller after just one season, shocking fans, especially as the series had plenty of potential.

Both shows, though quite different in nature and premise, featured strong female leads and underscored the power of friendship.

Ride or Die’s lack of season 2 renewal was a big shock, particularly because it was so well received, as Deadline reports it immediately shot to No. 1 in the US and logged 927 views in just 2 days of its release.

Spencer, who played Debbie Claybourne, the best friend to Waddingham’s Judith Barton, who was a secret international assasin, took to Instagram, writing, in part, “Projects like this shouldn’t be the exception, they should be the rule! For all the women out there who felt seen, laughed out loud, lived out loud with Debbie and Judith, thank you. This was a fun one! Thank you Tessa Coates! Massive thank you to you, Jen Salke! You’ve always had exquisite taste!”

Parent Trap and Abbott Elementary actress Lisa Ann Walter commented what we’re all thinking, “They’re insane. Biggest hit prime has had in a minute,” while Ruby Rose added, “This is in the top 10 CRAZIEST cancellations of all time. This PROVES WE ARE NOT ON A REAL TIMELINE!”

And this, of course, follows the cancellation of Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly’s western rom-com Ransom Canyon after its second season, proving that absolutely nothing and no one is safe.

With so many shows across a plethora of streaming platforms—maybe we’ve just spread viewership too thin? I can’t be the only one who is fed up with paying $10+ for every single service, forced to pick and choose who I support and what I watch. But in the case of Ride or Die, even promising numbers didn’t sway the powers that be. With everything growing more expensive with each passing day in this economy, maybe this is a sign of the times? Will more shows that fans love and pour their heart and soul into suffer the same fate? Should we stop getting invested altogether?

Virgin River Season 5 Episode 7

Fan-favorite small-town shows like Virgin River, The Way Home and One Tree Hill are joining forces for a first-ever experience.

As Virgin River fans patiently await season 8, there’s something else they can look forward to.

Ben Hollingsworth, who plays Dan Brady on the hit Netflix drama, took to Instagram for a first-ever announcement that delighted fans.

“Virgin River fans, I know you’re excited. You want to know: is Brady coming back for season 8? You want to know when season 8’s coming out? You want to know if there’s going to be a season 9. Well…” he begins, before a censored sticker covers his mouth and a bleep-out noise cuts off any sliver of news he was going to share.

“I’m just joking, I can’t tell you any of that,” he admits, before revealing something equally as exciting for the fandom.

“What I can tell you is that for the first time ever, me and a bunch of my Virgin River cast mates are going to be doing a convention.”

And it’s not just any convention, as he clarifies that it isn’t like “one of those mall ones,” adding that this one is “tailored just for shows like ours.”

By that, he meets small town shows, which have carved out a place for themselves in the TV landscape.

“It’s called Meet Cute con and the theme is small town television,” he added, noting, “that’s basically Virgin River.”
