Sometimes the things you do for love aren’t always huge romantic gestures, but huge and hard decisions.
The crossover of the season between Shondaland’s Station 19 and Grey’s is one that I’m sure many fans have been anticipating. Although, if you’re not a watcher of Station 19, the crossover meant very little.
Schmitt was transported in the ambulance of a supposed John Doe only to learn that the life he saved was the fire station chief. Turns out, he was, in fact, a hero. Nico’s sudden shift in the treatment of Schmitt has me seething a bit.
Link explained to Schmitt that Nico’s loss of the previous patient will Haunt Nico for the rest of his career, but I still don’t think it acts as an excuse for his horrible treatment of Schmitt.
I hope they mend their relationship soon, but right now things don’t look too great.
Meredith is faced with a tough decision to commit insurance fraud, although not her first rodeo. She’s determined to get the little girl the surgical procedure she needs.
Her father has done everything right, as Meredith states, but it goes to show how corrupt the system is. Meredith struggles with the idea that DeLuca disapproves but fearlessly goes through with it, even at the expense of her medical license and career.
By the end, DeLuca is standing in front of Meredith confessing his love for her! Only to have her respond with a slightly uncomfortable smile and an “ok.” Not necessarily what anyone wants as a response to their entire love display.
I wonder where that leaves them.
Following the trend in the Ellis Grey biology, Maggie seems to be having commitment issues to moving in with Jackson. She continues excusing her long-awaited answer on Meredith’s reservations for her moving out.
After speaking with the firehouse chief, she realizes
Now, getting to the entire Jo focus of the episode. Jo was brought onto Gus’ case to help ease her distractedness, and it seems to work at first. She begins feeling like she’s back in the game and we even see a moment of smiles shared between the Karevs.
Although, this easily shifts when she finds out that she misunderstood and messed up. Ben and Teddy notice something wrong with Jo and report her to Bailey.
After she breaks down to the patient’s mother she’s taken away by Alex. I’m honestly at a loss for what’s going to happen to Jo. Bailey could go either way. Understanding and request Jo see someone about her depression, or she could show her some typical Bailey tough love and suspend her. What are your thoughts?
Owen has finally noticed Link and Amelia’s budding relationship and he’s not too happy about it. With both the women in his life moving on and leaving him alone with Leo, he begins feeling lost.
During his visit to his therapist, he reveals that he has decided to admit his feelings for someone. I’m putting my money on Teddy! I hope we find out next week, because this whole Teddy, Owen, and Amelia drama has been dragged on for far too long, and I just want to know who is paired with whom.
I don’t think Shonda would allow Owen to end up alone. So I’m still regretfully placing my money on Teddy and Owen’s inevitable big ending.
Despite the sadness each season finale brings, I am looking forward to what Shonda has up her sleeves this year. There hasn’t been much set up for any major shockers, but that has never stopped her before.
- Jo finally broke down. The most important step for her to finally recover. Hopefully, this will lead her to open up completely to Alex. I’m glad we had a slight glimpse of the normal Alex and Jo relationship
- My love for Koracick and Teddy is growing, HELP! I’m supposed to be a Teddy and Owen shipper until the end! But the way Teddy looks at Koracick shows complete happiness and love. He’s perfect for her.
- It’s been so long since Jackson has truly had any screentime. I almost forgot he was on the show!
Grey’s Anatomy – Reunited (16×03)
Meredith’s back in the OR! Well, virtually, and Grey’s Anatomy had a few charming guest stars.
Any Charmed fans out there? I regretfully admit I have maybe seen only a few episodes. Hollie Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano are back together as sisters, guest-starring.
With all the previews and promos ABC had been putting out about these exciting guests, I was looking forward to seeing what they had planned. However, my hopes were too high as the storyline seemed unnecessary.
It wasn’t until the very end that I got a good laugh in. When their supposed sister was found brain dead after falling 30 feet they had to make the decision of whether or not to unplug her. While they were standing bedside unplugging said sister, they received a phone call from their actual sister.
It brought in minimal elements of Charmed, which was entertaining to spot, but other than that there was no big moment. Unless the whole problem of wrongfully IDing the woman and unplugging her will bring legal challenges to Alex as chief.
Meanwhile, Jo’s riding on her wave of success following her attending position appointment. Until she’s rudely awakened by a former patient of Meredith’s, who insists nobody perform her surgery except Meredith.
There’s no way in heck Bailey is going to let Meredith back in the hospital, even if it means a stubborn woman loses her life. So in order to rectify the situation, Jo attempts to persuade the woman into following through with the procedure.
Eventually, Bailey gives into letting Meredith make a virtual appearance in the OR. I wonder if we’ll ever see Meredith in the OR at all this season. At least the last episode perhaps.
The patient gives in after some convincing from Meredith in her reflective vest confirming that Jo was an exceptional student and replacement surgeon.
The procedure doesn’t go without its challenges, but, of course, Meredith wasn’t going to let anyone die on her watch! Jo takes the reigns and successfully completes the surgery.
This episode was a bit slow with its storylines but left the best for the end. The Korean woman Amelia and Link found wandering the halls repeating “birdie” over and over again happened to be the long lost love of Maggie’s patient Bert.
Who else’s heart swelled to three times its normal size?! Grey’s is so good with its cheesy romance, and I’m not mad about it.
Does anybody else remember the heartwarming love story between the older waiter who fell in love with the older woman who came to his restaurant every anniversary with her husband?
This love story wasn’t as star-crossed but still showed Amelia that life hands you many opportunities, and you’re the decision-maker of your own fate. You choose what you’re going to regret in the future.
Bert tells their story which began six decades ago when he was stationed in Korea. The rest was almost history until they are finally reunited at none other than Grey Sloan Memorial.
Tears of joy can be shed at this hospital!
In other news, Vic and Jackson’s relationship seems to be progressing at a steady pace. They’ve finally kissed! I’m honestly not bummed that Maggie and Jackson are over, it seems normal that Jackson is with Vic.
But poor Maggie is more effected by the breakup than anyone. I empathize, but the way she’s handling could be better.
Link and Amelia are finally sharing their baby news with more than just Maggie and Jo. So, it’s official! We’re having another Grey’s Anatomy baby. And I assume another future wedding!
It was only good and happy news during this episode. The show’s still coasting as the season goes forward, but that only means this is the calm before the storm.
What storm do you think the writers could have cooking up? Will it be Meredith’s medical license, Richard cheating on Catherine, or issues with Amelia’s baby?
Additional Side Notes:
- Boki’s back! She’s the real MVP of the OR.
- “I’m hormonal. I’m feeling that way about everyone.”
- Oh no, Richard better not do anything! He better not repeat his past mistakes.
- Teddy’s coming back and Owen’s taking the back seat as a stay at home dad.
- Koracick’s being ridiculous about the restraining order. His only appearance on the show is reserved for him to remind Owen about the 500 feet distance.
- Did Qadri really think yelling at Bailey was going to have any other outcome? Or maybe she’s going to join Alex and Richard’s team? Bailey’s not going to have a hospital staff
Grey’s Happy Patient Tally: Still no deaths! The brain dead patient doesn’t count, it was in the new hospital.
Grey’s Anatomy – Back in the Saddle (16×02)
Unfortunately, this week was a lackluster episode for Grey’s. This isn’t surprising considering the season premiere was such a huge event for us all.
Mer’s still on trash pick-up duty, Alex and Richard are still trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy at their new hospital, and Bailey’s back to teaching after Katherine demoted her.
Oh, but hey Jo’s back and better than ever, and she’s a hot commodity! She’s already looking better, and back to her chipper-self with the help of Alex. Already throwing out ultimatums to Bailey and making herself a general surgeon. Good on you Jo! Show them what you’re worth.
While Jo’s rising the ranks, the other interns are fighting to be the next Alex and Meredith. Meredith is now pulling an Izzie and Heather Brooks, helping desperate patients in the parking lot of the hospital.
We love a woman who puts her career at risk to help the less fortunate, and apparently, Andrew does too, “You’re just very very sexy when you’re about to burn your whole life down.”
She successfully pulls the assistance of Schmidt and Avery to diagnose her parole officer’s lymph node cancer. And, she’s working on publishing her findings of the lack of health insurance for the lower class. No matter what, you can’t stop Meredith Grey from working!
Addressing current nationwide issues is Grey’s forte. With the future election on the horizon, the question of healthcare is a huge cause for concern for many of the middle and lower classes. It’ll be interesting to see how the show lays out the foundation of this issue while the democratic debates continue doing the same. Maybe Shonda is a fortune teller and knows the fate of our nation, that would be no surprise.
Meanwhile, Amelia’s struggling with the decision of whether to terminate the pregnancy. She tells Link about the pregnancy and he’s stunned. They both have challenges with their past and fear bringing a child into the world. Link’s fears are too wholesome, and thankfully Jo helped him realize that he would make a great father. The child better have his hair!
It may appear the show enjoys throwing around pregnancy announcements like they do unsuspecting deaths, but this one is different. Though, they better not throw in a plot twist and tell us it’s Owen’s because then we’ll be having a hissy fit. Amelia’s tragedy with Christopher left her with a lot of grief, so we hope this is an easy pregnancy, drama free.
Link’s stable for her, and she deserves stability.
Teddy’s lack of visibility must be attributed to an underlying reason from her portraying actress Kim Raver. Any news? All I can say is I miss Teddy.
The conflict between Tom and Owen is elementary, but Tom has every right to be angry with Owen. Owen just comes in after breaking Teddy’s heart time after time. There can’t be more drama for Owen and Teddy, otherwise, that would just be mean.
Poor Tom trying to assert his dominance as Owen’s boss, and by the end, he’s the one on his knees. Certainly, Owen had the help of the defibrillator to accidentally shock Tom to his knees, ouch.
Tom’s restraining order against Owen is extremely excessive but again warranted. At least he’s not taking his anger out on Teddy.
Richard’s mini sentimental monologue to Alex about why Grey Sloan Memorial is his home is worthy of a final scene voiceover. I felt that one close to my heart.
The separation in hospitals is like a spoof of earlier seasons with the battle against Mercy West. How long is this going to last? I’m not a huge fan of the split storylines.
What do you think is next for the doctors? Will Meredith’s license be taken away? How will Alex and Richard eventually return to the hospital? And is Link really the father of Amelia’s child?
Please leave your thoughts below!
- Damn Maggie, tell us how you really feel. Maggie’s really going downhill since her relationship with Jackson, but it looks like Jackson’s really on the uprise with Vic.
- #Freedom, iconic and classic.
- Ranked number one in mortality rate, patient dissatisfaction, and facilities. What a sad result for Alex and Richard.
- Pretty sure texting a guy to drop a pregnancy announcement is already a thing.
- “We’d make an amazing kid and I kinda want to meet that kid.”
- Helm’s old crush on Meredith has manifested into wanting to now become Meredith! “I’m so Meredith Grey.”
- When did that room become a plant room? Wasn’t it originally just a blank room for relaxation? Either way, I want one!
- “I’m really sorry to bother you but I think that guy’s dead.”
- Grey’s Happy Patient Tally continues with a total of 3!
Grey’s Anatomy – Nothing Left to Cling To (16×1)
Welcome back fellow Grey’s Anatomy fans, it’s been a hot minute, and we’re already thrown into the midst of all the pent up drama from last season.
I’d consider myself an avid viewer, but truly, it’s been a while and I forgot a majority of the plotlines. It was like the finale was split in two with a four-month hiatus, and we were forced to piece everything back together in the dark — among imaginary fog, bears, and wolves.
It makes sense, they had no time to waste. Too many things to unpack in such a short amount of time, beginning with answering the long-awaited question of Jackson’s status.
No, he did not die, in fact, he climbed over to help a couple who had been hiking and after trying to take a selfie Jai stepped over the ledge while his “warrior goddess” wife Mari literally hung onto the last string keeping him from falling to his death.
Maggie’s angry response to Jackson leaving her alone on an unfamiliar road in the dark led to their downfall. I’m sure there was a collective sigh of relief when Jackson realized the relationship wasn’t working. I’m surprised they lasted this long. They were a trainwreck of a relationship.
It’s only the first episode and already one couple’s down.
With a face like his, are we really that surprised Jackson’s basically off the market again? Not even a day after he and Maggie broke it off. Another romance cross-over with Station 19? A future Bailey and Ben?
After Vic tells Jackson about her recently deceased fiance, he realizes she’s definitely not ready, but apparently waiting is a common theme among Grey’s men. They seem like a good match. They say they’re just friends, but c’mon, the way he looks at her, his eyes are completely hazed over with attraction.
Alex and Joe are also proposed to be on the rocks as Joe is beginning her time at a treatment center. She equates herself to the other crazy women Alex has dated, but just as Joe is stronger than any of them, Alex’s love for her is also stronger.
Joe gives him an out and although he briefly mulls it over, he instead proposes, again. Alex has truly become an upstanding man and husband. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Alex and Joe are the strongest couple on the show!
We’re finally given time to celebrate another Grey’s Anatomy birth. An official welcome to Allison, Teddy and Owen’s baby. Warning Allison, don’t get too comfy, things are always changing drastically. One second you’re birthed, and the next Bailey is already pulling your parents into the trauma wing.
Amelia and Owen seem to be on good terms. Link is really good for Amelia, and I hope to God the baby is his. Oh whoops, my bad, I didn’t properly drop the news, but I figured Grey’s did that well enough. AMELIA’S PREGNANT!
We are left to question who the baby daddy is. I can’t imagine adding another element to the Teddy, Owen, and Amelia triangle (Amelia, you have a threesome right in front of you). I’m almost positive they’re just using this to bait us and keep us questioning, but nothing can ever be ruled out on this show.
Finally bringing it full circle back to Meredith. She’s only on trash duty after her insurance fraud stunt. If only our politicians had the same values as she did about.
When your lawyer says it’s highly unlikely for the board to pursue action against your medical license, that’s when you know Shonda’s just leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for things to take a dramatic turn.
It looks like it’ll definitely be a few more episodes until we see Mer in surgery. I’m curious how they’re going to do the split storylines especially now that Richard and Alex have new jobs at a different hospital.
What a premiere. 15 seasons and still going strong, Grey’s is like a cockroach, it will never die.
What can we expect from this season? What do you hope to see? Drop down in the comments below and let us know your thoughts on the season premiere.
- Did anyone else miss their weekly dose of Bailey?! Although her appearance was minimal this episode, her one-liners still sink in. “I’m aware [you just had a baby]. She’s very cute. Congratulations. I still need you to come. Altman, you’re excused.”
- “I hate any other generation than my own.” A true mood of our entire world. Any Gen Zers out there?
- Koracick deserves so much better. At this point, there’s no hope for Teddy and Owen to break up. They’ve already gone through their rough patch, and now they’re on the uprise; their stars are aligned.
- “This is cocky, DeLuca.”
- I want to know who decided that the dog’s name should be Dumbledore!
- “Did you bring an actual violin?” Damn, well played judge. Well played.
- What a way to point out that Richard is getting old. Asking him about retirement…now that’s just plain rude!
Congrats to Amelia and Private Practice for offering their services in cracking the mysterious case of Jai’s ailment.
