It was a family reunion on Legacies Season 4 Episode 15 as we ventured back to New Orleans, and more specifically, Rousseau’s, the bar located in the heart of the French Quarter.
The fight to turn on Hope’s humanity was in full-swing, and with every plan failing and faltering, Alaric turned to the promise of “always and forever.”
Vincent — off screen — anchored a spell that astral projected Hope back to familial territory where she had a “morbid reunion” (her words, not mine) with Rebekah (Claire Holt), Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Freya (Riley Voelkel), and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic).
Admittedly, Legacies has suffered from the more childlike aspects in comparison to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, but the return to New Orleans made all those lackluster episodes worth it.
Hope may not have agreed, but it felt soooo good to be back home.
I’ve missed these people more than I ever cared to admit. And I’m hoping that their promise of “visiting more” and being there for Hope means that these guest appearances will become more frequent.
Heck, I’m still waiting for Caroline Forbes to show up in Mystic Falls and be there for her kids. And if a deadly battle with the gods isn’t enough to bring a mother home, I don’t know what is. What’s the hold up with Candice Accola?!
While Hope initially believed that she was stuck in some figment of her imagination or memory, the fact that neither Klaus nor Elijah made an appearance made it abundantly clear that everything was happening in real life.
And while it may have been some time since their passing, the family gathered to honor Klaus and lay him to rest. There was even a second line and everything.
Hope believed it was all staged to conjure up her feelings, but her aunt’s reminded her that this was very real. Using magic, they chased down Klaus’s ashes and needed Hope’s input to figure out where his final resting spot should be. After all, the Mikealson clan is known for their bickering and never seeing eye-to-eye.

Hope said that if she were to have her humanity back, she’d like to have her father’s ashes with her so that he would always be close by.
She may have been putting up a front and trying to remain tough, but the sentimental moments got to her and in popped humanity Hope to make her presence known.
She took advantage of humanity-less Hope’s weakened state and the two engaged in a battle right there in the town square. It was almost reminiscent of all the battles Klaus fought in that very spot, but this one was an internal battle that we were seeing pan out in real-life on screen.
There have been many characters throughout the franchise who have turned their humanity off, including Caroline who was probably the most stubborn when it came to flipping the switch back on, but we’ve never seen it from the victim’s point of view. We’ve never seen the dialogue or the torment that’s happening internally, and we’ve absolutely never seen the merge happen.
It was a fun way to shake things up when it came to the battle of regaining ones humanity.
While reconnecting with some familiar faces was the overall highlight of the episode, there was a lot happening in Mystic Falls as well as the threat of the gods rising to power loomed large.
Alaric, still slightly hampered by his recovery, decided to reconnect with a friend from his past to get advice on how to handle the incoming threat.
The friends? Oh, just a familiar vampire hunter… his subconscious. It was nice to see Alaric sans beard and looking like Damon Salvatore’s bestie once again, but it’s also such a reminder of Alaric’s career trajectory. He’s come so far from being a man who hunted monsters to the man who runs a school full of supernatural creatures.
By the end of their chat, present-day Alaric shaved off his beard in a what seems to be a symbolic statement that this former hunter is ready to kick some ass.
Lizzie and Aurora had quite an intense journey as they realized that messing with the gods and the demi-gods was a dangerous game to play.
As Lizzie distracted Jen, Aurora cut the key out of Ben’s kidney. But she failed to realize just how powerful and determined to wake his one true-love, Asher, Ben really was, and by trudging on with a poorly-thought out plan, she clued Ben into the fact that he had the key — literally — to wake up his father all this time.
Of course, had they just talked to Jen about this, she would’ve warned them.
Lizzie likely didn’t expect Jen, her foe, to become a friend, but when Ben ambushed Aurora and stole the sarcophagus’, she had no one to turn to for comfort.
Jen proved to be a promising ally, however, as she encouraged Lizzie to go home and talk to her family.
“I made a mistake,” was a huge moment for Lizzie as she hugged Alaric and MG and confided in them everything that has gone down since she teamed up with Aurora.
Elsewhere, Caleb took Cleo to his hometown to address the issue of her powers. May, an old friend who helped him when he initially turned, helped Cleo reconnect with her powerful abilities, but when she saw the future, she likely wished she could’ve forgotten it. The destruction of Mystic Falls and the death of their friends + innocent people is likely not something you want to see when preparing for a war that you’re already ill-equipped to handle.
Caleb and Cleo want to stop them raising the gods, but Ben’s already too far gone and blown the whole thing open in hopes of resurrecting his love.
What does that mean for everyone? And how will it impact Aurora and Lizzie?
Hope finally made it back to Mystic Falls with her humanity in-tact, but her humanity-less self was not too far behind. It looks like it’ll take a lot more to destroy the darker parts of herself.
What did you think of the episode? Did you enjoy The Originals reunion?
