Riverdale Review – Hereditary (4×06)

Riverdale/ The CW

Riverdale loves messing with our minds.

Everyone fought to get their power back on “Hereditary,” but not everyone was successful. Actually, most of them weren’t successful.

Archie made a deal with the devil, again. You’d think that by now he would know what happens when he trusts Hiram Lodge. Nothing is ever free with him. He took care of Archie’s Dodger problem rather drastically, although, it was nothing compared to Dodger’s goons shooting up Archie’s house. Dodger had it coming, sure, but what does this mean for Archie? Is he working with Hiram now? He may have taken care of one loose cannon by indebting himself to another. As always, Archie’s intentions were in the right place but his solutions were downright questionable. Hiram proved he’s no less of a bully than Dodger.

Veronica was also having a Hiram Lodge problem, but it was Hermione who fell for his old ways. Veronica thought she was hitting Hiram and Hermosa where it hurt them by aligning with her mom and helping her score a job to become independent, but that all went to hell when Hermione let Hiram right back into her life, her bed, and her house. Honestly, Hermione, do you have no backbone? Hermione proved that she’s never wanted to do any of the heavy lifting because she’s comfortable lying for her husband.

After all the crap that Hiram pulled and how he tried to destroy her and make her rot in prison, all it took was a graze on the shoulder and a whisper in her ear to convince Hermione to take him back.

She not only took Hiram back, but she agreed to renew her vows immediately. If I knew Hiram at all, he’s plotting something where he either needs Hermione to support him or to be his scapegoat. Either way, she doesn’t deserve Veronica’s mercy anymore. It almost seemed like Hermione was drugged into being obedient when Veronica confront her.

Hermosa cannot be trusted either. She claims there’s good in Hiram, and that may be true since he has always protected his family, but that doesn’t give him a free pass or erase the truly terrible things he’s done. Hermosa is up to something, I just cannot figure out her plan yet.

Betty made a move in an attempt to figure out who Charles really was. Mainly, she wanted to see if she was right about him being a serial killer. Sadly, her whole plan backfired. Why? Because she never stood a chance. Charles is a complete psychopath as we all suspected.

Betty questioned Chic who told her that Charles killed a man during their threesome. When Betty confronted Charles and made him do a lie detector, he blamed Chic for the murder explaining that it forced them to break up. But obviously Charles knows how to rig a lie detector test, he’s the FBI for crying out loud.

Shortly after, Charles claimed Chic reported the murder of the shady man at Alice’s house, which seemed suspicious. If he reported it, why weren’t there other FBI agents at the house? Because Charles lied to his family so that he could locate the body, move it, and then get into everyone’s good grace. And it worked. Betty felt indebted to her brother and ignored her gut feel, which has been right all along.

Charles and Chic are still in love and have some kind of plan for the Cooper family. If you weren’t interested in yet another fake brother, the fact that they’re both working together and in love makes this juicy even by Riverdale standards.

Things at Thistlehouse are getting a wee bit out of hand.

Cheryl still won’t bury Jason’s rotting corpse, she believes she’s being haunted by Julian’s unsettled spirit and attempts to drown him in a tub, oh, and she and Toni killed her Uncle Bedford after he snuck into the chapel and saw Jason’s body.

Normally, I would argue that Cheryl’s family is money-hungry and trying to undermine her to sell the not-profitable maple syrup business, but there’s some truth in Bedford pointing out that Cheryl is deranged and should seek treatment.

At this point, we have to stop hoping that Toni will be the beacon of hope because she’s just as messed up in all of this craziness as Cheryl. Though, she did have a valid point about selling Thistlehouse and all the bad luck it brings to start over somewhere fresh. Preferably somewhere where Penelope doesn’t have access. She has to be behind the torment being caused by Julian, right?

I don’t know how the ladies covered up the murder, but Aunt Crickett isn’t going to go down without a fight.

Jughead definitely had it the worst out of everyone, but maybe that’s just because I know his endgame finds him in a morgue.

There’s either two ways this plays out: either Jughead fakes his death to write the “perfect murder” for the Baxter Brothers series or someone at Stonewall Prep kills him.

Both options are looking pretty possible at this point.

Jughead completed an analysis of the Baxter Brothers text (this is why we love him) and realized that the first book had a significantly different tone than the remaining five. Therefore, he doubted that Mr. DuPont was the ghostwriter for all of them.

Needing some proof before he made his findings public, Jughead did some digging and found a very similar story in a Riverdale newsletter written by Frosty Pajamas, his grandfather’s pen name, a few years before he transferred to Stonewall Prep.

The findings were impressive and proved that Jughead was superior to everyone else in the class.

However, Mr. DuPont was not having any of it and threatened Jughead, which definitely proved he had something to hide like the fact that he’s not the actual ghostwriter of the first book.

Jughead took up his concerns with Mr. Chipping, who agreed that the situation needed to be remedied.

And then, the wildest thing to ever happen on Riverdale happened. And yes, I do remember that Edgar Everner wore an Evel Knievel suit and attempted to escape on a self-built helicopter.

Mr. Chipping walked into glass normal as can be, took a deep breath, told Jughead he tried to help and JUMPED OUT OF THE FRICKING WINDOW.

Just like that. And what’s worse is that no one in the class even flinched.

Brett later made a comment about Mr. Chipping’s “fall from grace,” as if everyone is in on something except for Jughead.

Now, this has me convinced that something truly awful happens to Jughead. He clearly hasn’t made a good name for himself at the school and Mr. DuPont, who is taking over Chipping’s class, doesn’t even think Jughead belongs there.

There’s a longstanding hatred for the Jones men and it’s unclear why, but I don’t think Jughead was brought to the school on accident.

What I cannot figure out is why the Baxter Brother’s novels are so important to Stonewall Prep. And why is keeping the secret of the first ghostwriter a life or death matter?

What is DuPont hiding?

What do you think happens to Jughead?

What’s Hiram Lodge’s next big plan?

And what are Chic and Charles plotting against the Cooper-Jones’?

Chilling TV Shows to Watch on Friday the 13th

Happy Friday the 13th.

If you’re in the mood to get your mind off of reality (we can’t blame you, we’re all tired of hearing about coronavirus) and watch some scary TV shows, we have just the thing.

While horror used to be a big-screen format, it has found a home on small-screens with shows eager to push forward complex and psychological mysteries, apocalyptic themed-themes, classic slasher tropes, and, for good measure, old fashioned jump scares.

Check out our list of Friday the 13 TV shows to watch!

Riverdale – The CW

Forget Freddie, Jason, and Michael, Riverdale has the Black Hood, the Gargoyle King, and Edgar Evernever. Riverdale, a town best known by its nickname “murder capital of the world,” is filled with murder mysteries and serial killers, and you never know if what you’re watching is what’s really happening.

Haunting of House Hill – Netflix

There’s nothing scarier than moving into a creaky, old house with your five children. Add in that the house begins to have paranormal experiences that haunt the family simply looking to make a quick buck from a house-flip and you have one of the scariest shows on Netflix. Keep the lights on, you’ll need ‘em.

Scream – MTV/ BET

We hope you remember Ghostface because he’s back this time in a TV series adaptation of the horror film franchise. The MTV series centered around a brutal murder in Lakewood that stirs up memories of a crime spree from the past. The masked killer is out for blood and revenge and leads you on a fun and twisted game of whodunnit.

Nancy Drew – The CW

Your favorite sleuthing book detective has made her way to the small screen. Horseshoe Bay is a town plagued by unsettled and ghostly spirits, but one reigns supreme: Lucy Sable. The Seaqueen was murdered in 2000 and has become somewhat of an urban legend until Nancy and her friends, the Drew Crew, decided to solve her mysterious death when it intertwined with another, connected murder.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Netflix

The series will leave you praising Satan! Sabrina Spellman lives on the other side of the Sweetwater River in Greendale, the neighboring town of Riverdale. Sabrina is a half-watch, half-mortal who finds herself fighting against dark forces from the occult that threatens her human world.

The Exorcist – FOX

If the film scared you, the series will give you nightmares. Angela Rance turns to Father Tomas Ortego, a church leader in Chicago, for help battling the evil emitting from inside their house and causing nightmares and psychotic breaks.

American Horror Story – FOX

The anthology series from Ryan Murphy finds each season diving into a new disturbing and gruesome storyline though the actors appear in multiple episodes as new characters. Many elements of the plot are pulled loosely from real events, which makes it even more terrifying. To help you get a general idea, “Murder House,” “Asylum,” “Coven,” “Freakshow,” and “Hotel” are all different seasons to indulge in… if you dare.

Black Mirror – Netflix

When I was a little girl, the Twilight Zone series terrified me, but Black Mirror amplifies the genre by “tapping into the collective unease about the modern world.” In short, it examines modern society through the lens of technology, and there’s nothing scarier than being hit with a dose of realism. Each episode is a stand-alone drama, so you don’t have to watch it all at once.

Tell Me A Story – CBS All Access

These aren’t the fairy tales you’re used to. The anthology series, hailing from The Vampire Diaries’ Kevin Williamson, is a dark and twisted take on your favorite fairy tales as they emphasize qualities like greed, lust, murder, and revenge. Season 1 digs into “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Three Little Pigs,” and “Hansel and Gretel,” while season 2 taps into “Beauty and the Beast,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella.”

The Purge – FX

Based off a film of the same name, the TV series explores what happens to a society when murder and all crime becomes legal for a 12-hour period. Seemingly unconnected characters cross paths, but can they be trusted on Purge Night or are they all just playing the game?

Les Revenants (The Returned) – A&E Network

When a group of men, women, and children return home to their village, they’re met with confusion as they’ve been dead for several years. A series of murder coincide with their return that seem connected to a serial killer from the past.

Riverdale Back in Production as Creator Teases Prom Photo

Did someone say prom?

Not even the coronavirus pandemic could prevent these teens from the right of passage that is the senior dance on Riverdale

The CW teen drama’s showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo on Instagram that gave fans a glimpse into season 5’s prom episode.

The photo featured the beloved couple “Choni” aka Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom and Vanessa Morgan’s Toni Topaz.

“Rest assured, ALL the queens will [be] reigning SUPREMELY next season,” he captioned the post seemingly alluding the Morgan’s outspoken criticism of the show for its lack of diversity and proper storylines for diverse characters. At the time, Aguirre-Sacasa promised to do better.

The prom episode was initially supposed to be part of the show’s fourth season, but it was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the show to suspend production three episodes shy of its promised count.

‘Riverdale’ Star Vanessa Morgan Announces Pregnancy as Husband Michael Kopech Files for Divorce

Therefore, the upcoming season of Riverdale will include all those milestone high school moments before doing a significant time jump that will likely find our favorites from the murderous town in college.

While the photo serves as confirmation that the series is back in production (we couldn’t be more excited), it was taken during the remaining few days on set for season 4 as since filming hasn’t picked back up again.

Of course, this also means that the series is back on track to return during the midseason in January 2021.

All good things!

Riverdale's Vanessa Morgan and Michael Kopech Expecting First Child

Updated: July 27

Shortly after Vanessa Morgan announced she was expecting her first child, a baby boy, her husband of several months, Michael Kopech, filed for divorce.

Citing court docs, the Chicago Tribune reports revealed that the MLB player filed back in June. It was sealed on Monday.

No hearing has been scheduled.

Reps for Kopech and Morgan did not offer up comments. Neither have commented on the divorce or pregnancy announcement.

Fans grew concerned when Morgan posted the baby announcement without any mention of Kopech. He was not in any of the videos or photos.

The couple wed in January after a year-long engagement and one year of dating.

It’s unclear what led to the split.

Original post July 25:

Congrats are in order for Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan.

The CW actress is expecting her first child!

The 28-year-old shared the exciting news with fans on Instagram with pictures from her gender reveal.

If you can’t handle the suspense — she’s having a baby boy!

While she admitted that she would like to keep this part of her life private, she said she wanted fans to hear it from her before they found out by eventually seeing her growing bump.

I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January,” she wrote. “It’s almost like everything I thought mattered in this life has completely changed.. We’re here for such a greater purpose and life is so precious.”

She continued to gush about the exciting milestone in her life: “I can’t believe how much growth & strength you’ve already given me as your mom,” the actor added. “It’s like God knew I needed you, my angel. The universe works in mysterious ways but always times everything the way it was meant to be. Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate every day to being the best mommy I can be.”

We Need to Acknowledge Vanessa Morgan’s Comments About Black Characters Being Portrayed as ‘Sidekicks’

Morgan and Kopech, who is a professional baseball player for the Chicago White Sox, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in January.
