The Royals season finale was full of oh-my god moments and at the end I was left saying W-T-F and rightfully so. I seriously cannot wait till November!
Where do I even begin? Liam woke up at Ophelia’s house and we were both like “wait, how did I get here.” We were clearly to assume that she was the one that picked up a drunk and beat up Liam in the rain the night before, but we weren’t buying it. Since he wasn’t in line for the throne anymore… or even royalty for that matter, they decided to run away together to Rio. Seriously their dreams were to own a cart with flowers and to be a fisherman? Weak sauce. He told Cyrus that he would leave and never return to the palace, provided he allow him to use the personal plane. Obviously Cyrus agreed and the lovebirds jetted off. But not before saying bye to Marcus, Liam’s trusted friend and security guard. Or so we though. Turns out, he had a huge crush on Ophelia and Gemma knew about it. And as we know, Gemma is evil and wants to win Liam back at all costs, so she pretended to actually care about Ophelia and persuaded Marcus to call Liam and tell him his GF was giving up her dancing dreams for him, knowing he’d never let that happen.
I’m a little upset Marcus took the bait, but really happy Ophelia actually went to the audition. You know she would have regretted it, plus Liam is right. They both have their own destiny’s right now. They will eventually come together, but for now… there’s just a lot happening. Except, when Ophelia did go to the audition, one of the judges/teachers was actually texting Gemma and she ordered him to accept her into the program and keep her in NY! Seriously, how effed up. Does this mean she never really got there on her own? I hope not!
Meanwhile, Liam flew back home after realizing he couldn’t leave because he had to avenge his father. The realization hit him all at the same time… he was wearing a pendant with a symbol that wasn’t his. He realized Ophelia never actually picked him up from the street, but rather, a park, which means someone got to him before her. And, he found his father’s doctors phone on the plane. Why would he leave while his father was laying in a coma? Well… we know it’s because Cyrus ordered him too. Because Cyrus is a bloody monster.
The little pendant had a symbol on it. It was dominos falling. Later in the episode, the Queen gets a black and red letter with that same symbol, before going to great the people of England in front of the palace and someone holds up the a flag with the word Domino. The only thing that comes to mind is that someone wants them to know their onto them and when one thing falls apart, everything falls like a domino effect. It also seems like the Queen isn’t shaken by this… she actually knows what this is. Could this be her deal with the anti-monarchists? Does she have a bigger plan then we’re aware of?
While Liam was trying to run away from his problems, Eleanor was facing them. Last week she ran into the suspicious guy from outside the palace who told her he killed her brother. He also wanted to meet up under some bridge to tell her everything and to not trust anyone in the palace. Well, duh. So, she turned to the only person she could trust- Jasper! She bailed him out after getting him arrested and then filled him in on what’s been going on in the land of the royals. Sidenote: Jasper only slept with her mom because she knew who he was and he didn’t want to leave because he’s in love with Eleanor. That makes us feel a little better, but not much because ew, he still slept with her mom!
Anyways, they meet up with the sketchy dude who basically tells them everything we already knew. Her brother Robert didn’t die of a suicide, he was killed on an order from someone in the palace. They were coming for him next and well, we kind of know that this is probably Cyrus’s doing. When she told Liam about this, he flipped out and beat the crap out of his uncle. Honestly, thank god. Someone had to do it. While he was knocking him almost unconscious, the king died, and Marcus burst into the room ordering Liam to stop punching the King of England. That line really resonated in the scene. Immediately, a shaken Liam ran out of the room and to his fathers bed side. I’m honestly so sad that he died. Seeing the children so distraught was terrible, but knowing it’s because they know someone purposefully did this is even worse. Next season there will be an interesting divide as Liam, Eleanor and Jasper join forces to try to take down the monarchy and find the truth about their brother and father.
But it won’t be easy. When Prudence got wind of the Kings death, she rubbed her pregnant belly and whispered, “don’t worry, daddy is king now.” Alright… back it up! We know she was getting raped by Cyrus, but she also tried to kill Cyrus. Was she in cahoots with him after that? Also, how much time has gone by since the King died? Last we saw her, she wasn’t even showing! She seemed so happy to hear that the king died that for a second, I thought she might have actually been the one that killed him. Could she have done the deed knowing she was pregnant and Cyrus promised to marry her and replace her as Queen? I wouldn’t see it past him considering he’s been shady to Helena and doesn’t trust her. Or, is Prudence keeping the pregnancy a secret from Cyrus? Will she try to use it against him and make her baby the next king/queen? Seems kind of dumb though considering the baby would have to be of age right? And what happens when someone questions those paternity tests and finds out Liam and Eleanor are actually the kings children?! Sheesh!
And lastly, the Queen wrote a letter to her side man, but when she went on live television, she still lied about who Liam and Eleanor’s father was. I’m assuming the letter she gave Lucius explained that, but she was dumb for trusting him because he lied to her boy-toy/love of her life and then had his men kill him. The Queen will definitely heart broken when she finds out. Also… who trusts a dude named Lucius? First rule of Harry Potter… and it sounds too much like Lucifer, the devils name which this guy kind of reminds me of. After getting rid of “Henry,” he wanted to take out the King, but thankfully Ted interrupted him. Not that it matters…. He’s also a prime suspect in the mystery of who stabbed the king… After this, I’m really glad I’m not a royal!
- Will Liam find the doctor? Will they find out the truth about their paternity? Will they regain the throne? Cyrus is quite possibly the worst person to rule a country.
- Will Ted die? I see Cyrus doing something cruel to him, especially since Ophelia left. I’d never leave a parent in that environment.
- Will Jasper and Eleanor get together?
- Whose side is Helena on?
- Whose side is Prudence on? Good or evil?
- Who else really enjoyed the moment with Cyrus’s senile mother, who warned him about himself and called him evil. Wonderful moment that showed Cyrus’s vulnerability for a quick minute.
- What is domino?
The Royals – With Mirth in Funeral and With Dirge in Marriage (4×10)
It’s a wedding fit for the Royals.
In other words, The Royals Season 4 Episode 10 was the culmination of Queen Helena, Cyrus and Liam’s master plan to take down Robert once and for all.
I’ll be honest; there are only a handful of TV episodes that I’ve watched where I’ve felt pure anxiety throughout the whole hour. “With Mirth in Funeral and With Dirge in Marriage” shot up to the top of the list.
The Royals – Foul Deeds Rise (4×09)
The Royals – In The Dead Vast and Middle of the Night (4×08)
Before a royal wedding, there’s a royal bachelorette and bachelor party.
But on The Royals Season 4 Episode 8, neither event went as planned.
Despite her objections, Eleanor and Queen Helena threw Willow a “hen party” complete with massages, champagne and a chocolate fountain. Sounds relaxing, right?
