The Secret Circle- Balcoin

“You can’t let emotion cloud what you know to be true”

Moral of this episode? Be careful who you trust with your secrets. They could turn out to be witch hunters…

Trying to figure out these old scriptures Calvin left for her, Cassie doesn’t waste any time. Jake finds a family tree drawn on the scriputers leading Blackwell to Balcoin. Balcoin was a last name of a family with evil and dark magic. Everyone believed it was eradicated but it wasn’t it was just changed to Balcoin. After John Blackwell was killed in the fire they believed the lineage had ended but he had a daughter Cassie, who carries that magic in her. After Jake debated if he wanted to turn Cassie over to the witch hunters, he acted like an asshole to her so he could just leave with them and let her go, hurting her as little as possible. That obviously didn’t work very well because once he saw her dressed up he accepted her date offer and they headed to the fundraiser together. They shared an adorable dance together after which we see that Jake really has fallen for Cassie. He gets a call from the witch hunter and finds out that he has to make Cassie come with him and they are kidnapping her because her magic is too valuable to leave behind. He quickly takes her too his home and explains a little about her family tree before she gets a text from Adam that says point black “Jake is a witchhunter.” She freaks out and runs to her house where she is kidnapped by the lead witch hunter who realized that Jake was flaking. As Jake tries to save her he is knocked out. It was very cute to see Jake change sides and try to save Cassie after he was so set on getting rid of all the witches. He is a witch himself, he obviously feels for them.

Adam and Faye don’t trust Jake from the beginning and they spy on him all night. Adam follows Jake outside and realizes that he in fact is a witch hunter and that Cassie is in danger. When they see him knocked out they don’t realize that he was in fact trying to save Cassie until Faye see’s that he really does care about her. They drive to the dock where Adam runs onto the boat to save Cassie and Jake stalls the witch hunters. As Faye, Adam, and Cassie run they burn down the bridge behind them connecting land to the boat. They watch Jake leave on the boat with the witch hunters and you can see Cassie’s heart is broken but at the same time she is so confused. What was really intriguing was that the main witch hunter told Jake that she wasn’t the only child of Blackwell in the circle….Does that mean that Cassie and Jake are step sibilings? But they just fell in love…. So Cassies dad cheated on her mom? What does this mean for the circle? Why didn’t Jake jump off the boat? Did he feel obligated to stay?

In calmer news, Melissa is still in depression and her cousin has come to cheer her up. This is the same cousin that Diana had a huge crush on when she was younger. He is obviously interested and Diana see’s a good opportunity to get over Adam and see if she could be with someone else. I smell romance and jealousy brewing. Will this push Adam towards Cassie now that Jake has left and he see’s Diana with another guy? Will Melissa become jealous? How will Faye cope with the realization that Jake can actually fall in love with someone else? Also, I am a little bit worried about Cassies grandmother. Seems the spell that Thomas put on her to forget what she saw has some negative side affects and she is showing symptoms similar to Alzheimers. How are they going to fix her? Can they undo the spell? Will this be deadly? Obviously the children are much better at this magic thing than their parents. That’s probably why the parents don’t have magic anymore… Just saying.  Overall a weak episode compared to Vampire Diaries. Hopefully next season picks up a lot.

Memorable Quotes
-Faye: There’s been a death in the family. No one will care if you go.
-Faye: No the Jake I knew would never hang out here like a retiree but he would steal.
– Diana: I’m single now. Its pretty empowering actually when I’m not desperately missing Adam.
-Cassie: What I’m good enough to kiss but not good enough to go on a date with?
-Jake: This isn’t me acting like a jerk Cassie. This is me being nice. I’m not interested what part of that do you not understand?
-Faye: Jake doesn’t do interested and not caring is what makes him, him. He’s after something trust me.
-Dawn: So if Jane suffers any long-term damage it’s on you.
-Adam: So first you’re trying to kill us and now you’re trying to save us?
-Adam: Oh right, when you were leading us to slaughter. I knew the situation looked familiar.
-Jake: She matters to me.
         Witch hunter: You’re a fool.
-Jake: She can fight off the darkness the circle doesn’t have to fight off the darkness.
-Witch hunter: Cassie Blake isn’t the only child of Blackwell in the circle.

The Secret Circle- Crystals

“Its you. You’re the other Blackwell in the circle. You’re my sister.”

This weeks episode of the Secret Circle concentrated mainly on acquiring the crystals needed to take on the witch hunters. With a couple of interruptions along the way, the gang was able to get the Jake’s family crystal safe and sound. But the search for crystals brought along a couple of revelations. The biggest one would have to be that the “rumor” that Isaac told Jake when he was on the ferry a couple of episodes back is true, there is another Blackwell child besides Cassie. No it isn’t Jake and unfortunately it isn’t Faye either, although she was really hoping it would be her. Instead it was the one person that I would never have thought would have the capacity to possess dark magic; Diana. Her inability to breathe in the mine that was spelled to keep dark magic out indicates that she is the other Blackwell child. But what is the significance of two Blackwell children? Why didn’t anyone tell her? Why was it kept such a secret? I wonder why this whole time Cassie’s dark magic activated, but Diana’s didn’t? It can’t be because she’s a good person because Cassie is a sweetheart as well. But what does this mean? Well, the circle is now stronger than ever. Faye is going to be completely jealous since she never liked Diana to begin with. And its comical to see that both of Adam’s ex girlfriends are actually sisters. It also means that John Blackwell had way too many flings as a youngin’ and had something with almost every girl in the circle. Not the kind of father Cassie was expecting I presume. I guess its safe to wonder if Thomas Meade knows he isn’t Diana’s biological father. Could that be the reason why he hates Blackwell so much?

This new revelation comes at a pretty inconvenient time for Diana who has found herself trapped and suffocated by the circle. It seems odd that she’s the one thats fed up with always attaining to the circles needs when it is because of her that the circle exists. She convinced them all to bind the circle and strengthen their powers and now she wants out??? True, being a witch probably does interfere with ones love life and it seems rather hard to build a trusting relationship on lies, but one cannot just abandon who she is. Especially at such a crucial time. Which means Diana will have to make a decision, either she trusts her English boy enough to tell him her secret and let him be a part of her life or she walks away, at least for now. I mean she has enough on her plate as it is. Dark magic is not an easy thing to handle.

Which all brings us back to what Jakes grandfather told them. He insisted that the root of all evil was Blackwell and that he is the reason all of their parents died. He knew what the results were going to be but he lied to his circle and convinced them to take of the witch-hunters anyways. Seems as if this is what Blackwell is trying to get their circle to do as well. But can he be trusted? The source of this information isn’t all that credible considering that Jake’s grandfather could also be lying and have a mission of his own to kill everyone in the circle (the paper with every member of the circle and all their birthdays.) Or he could be telling the truth. One can never know with Blackwell and we see that he goes to extreme lengths to get what he wants. He had no problem watching Cassie’s grandmother die. Granted he wasn’t the one that killed her physically, he did play a big part in the process. It seems that although he is trying to help Cassie and protect the circle, he has no problem hurting her and killing any one that gets in his way. What do you guys think can Blackwell be trusted?

“In some way your lucky. If you remembered you’d miss it and missing it is the worst part.”

I’m getting a little lost in the whole mess of things on the Secret Circle. If Ebon is trying to rid the world of all witches than why is he working with a witch and trying to achieve this with magic? He’s the one that frowns on it right? Seems like he’s a pretty big hypocrite. I also cannot seem to figure out what John Blackwell is up to. First he lied about not having magic, than he faked a curse to keep Adam and Cassie away from each other. Of course this was done with good intentions because he wants to keep the circle safe but lying to your daughter in the first place is a bad idea. Especially cause its been so hard for her to trust you anyways. Now we find out that he has attempted to unleash demons and thats the reason for the fire in the boathouse and the reason why so many people died. Yet Cassie still believes he’s a good guy and sure he comes off like that. He saved her from the demon and kept the circle safe with his power and has now become their “leader” in the fight to save the circle from witch hunters. But at the end of the episode we see him back at the ground where demons were just unleashed doing something that he obviously didn’t want anyone to know about. What is he up too? Is he really good and altruistic or is he going to turn his back on the circle?

The stress of magic is really getting to everyone in the circle. This week they all just wanted to step back and live a normal life, away from magic and demons and witch hunters. But unfortunately you cannot run away from what you are born into. That being said when the circle is in trouble you drop everything, take your “to-go” coffee and help. It might be rather hard for Diana to form a relationship with a mortal especially since a relationship will only work if it is based on the truth and that means she would have to tell him she’s a witch.  I’m not sure how smoothly that would go over especially because you can never trust anyone in Chance Harbor. He might be a witch-hunter as well for all we know. Faye and Melissa let loose this weekend with a little flirting competition courtesy of Adam who actually needed to get his mind of off things. It is utterly tragic to watch Cassie and Adam, a couple that was so in love act like nothing ever happened. The change that has occurred within Adam is enough to break my heart. Cassie still loves him and although he knows he loves Cassie he cannot remember that feeling. Will enough time pass before Cassie falls in love with Jake  or will Adam break through the potion and fall back in love with Cassie?

All we know is that the battle is just beginning between good versus evil. But which side is the circle on good or evil? In order for them to defeat Ebon and stay alive they need to be more powerful than he is now that he has unleashed the demons. The power lies within the crystals. If they find all the crystals and put them back into one they will be more powerful. The only problem is that as of now they only have Melissa’s crystal and from what I remember one crystal was used up and Diana’s dad has 2 crystals- his and Cassie’s grandmothers. Does this mean that the fight is going to occur between parents and their children? All we can do is wait till April and find out.

Memorable Quotes

  • Cassie: So now witch hunter are hunting you. How does that feel?

The Secret Circle- Witness

“It wasn’t just blocking out a memory, it was blocking out the truth.”

Finally an installment of Secret Circle that head my head buzzing and kept me on my toes throughout. The writers relied on a form of “inception” to uncover the truth about the fire that happened years back that killed all of their parents. What they learned though was much more helpful than what they had pieced together through their family books. The witch-hunters were the ones who started the fire so many years back, not the witches. And John Blackwell never really died in that fire as it was presumed. That means that he has been around this whole time watching Cassie grow up? Why wouldn’t he intervene is some situations for example Cassie’s mother getting killed? I’ll admit the arch of the storyline is intense, they just have to back it up with a lot of facts and explanations, otherwise viewers will have to many questions and too many loopholes will be left open. If John Blackwell does return, it will be like opening the door to disaster. I can’t wait.

The drama lies within Team Jake and Team Adam and the tension between both of them is brilliant. Leave it up to the writers to leave Cassie in a state of confusion between two great guys, just as they did to Elena on TVD. Anyways, both guys are madly in love with Cassie and it seems like Jake proved this week that he isn’t only after Cassie’s power. He wants to help uncover the truth just as much as she does and its important that they do. Learning about history helps from repeating the same mistakes again. The event that occurred in “Witness” was mighty important to the progression of the story and for Cassie to get a hold of her dark magic and figure out how to use it properly. It also led her to that necklace left by her father that will further protect her from the witch-hunters. It also revealed to us that Adam’s father, Ethan, might not be the man we all thought he was. Dawn is a lying manipulative bitch, just like her daughter but at least she’s up-front about it. Thomas was a bully and always will be a bully, but once again he owns up to it. Ethan came off as this sweet, saddened, drunk father and now we find out that he was actually helping out the witch-hunters kill John Blackwell. Could it be because he was so in love with Emilia that he wanted to get rid of Blackwell? Does this mean he is going to be a potential threat to Cassie and that the scene in last weeks episode at the gym was only the beginning of a dangerous feud?

As Diana mentioned “I feel like the circle is falling apart” and that seems to be true. Besides for Cassie, Adam, Diana and Jake nobody else seems to be too interested in what is happening to the circle. Melissa hasn’t had much of a story line since Nick died, her character is very monotonous and not exciting. Bad girl Faye has her own life now away from the circle which involves her new sexy potions priest. Yet this new friendship of hers is going to put her in a lot of trouble. She is the type of girl that fears nothing and wants to try everything. When Cullem the drug dealer gave her that devils-spirit you could see that she was ecstatic on the inside. If Lee’s warning about his ex girlfriend was any indication of where Faye’s storyline was about to go then we are going to have one crack out bad girl attacking everybody. Her struggle for power will ultimately bring her down and cause her to suffer grave consequences.

But lets just go back to the boat house and the memories. Cassie is a very persistent person and she tends to break the rules just to get what she wants. That’s exactly what she did today, even kicking Jake out of her memory. While she was in that memory no one could see her, except for one lady who warned her that she shouldn’t be here. How could she have seen her? Why did she warn her? What effect is this going to have on the rest of the story? The most heartbreaking part of that had to have been Jake seeing his mother die right in front of him. I don’t think any child could bear to see that and stay as calm as he did. With this being said, Cassie stated that there seemed to be sides being chosen within the circle and some people sided with the witch-hunters and some sided with Blackwell? How will this revelation affect everything. This episode was great as it was an introduction and a set up to what is to come. Now I just hope that they flesh everything out in the same exciting mannerism as “Witness” was done in.

  • Adam: There’s a council of witch-hunters? Are you their mascot?
  • Cassie: He cares about me.
    • Adam: You or your powers?

  • Lee: Damnit Faye, I just cleaned up the place from the last time you thrashed it.
  • Cullem: Except you expressed some interest and I am very sensitive to a pretty girls needs. Call me if you develop any more needs.
