Kiernan Shipka’s New Slasher Comedy Is Your Fall Must-Watch

Published

on

Totally Killer on Amazon Prime Video

If you loved Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Cruel Summer, this new Prime Video movie is right up your alley.

Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holt are joining forces in Totally Killer, a slasher comedy with a rather unique premise, marrying all things spooky with time travel.

Shipka—who famously portrayed Sabrina Spellman in the Netflix drama and Riverdalestars as 17-year-old Jamie, a rebellious teen who ignores her mom’s (played by Modern Family’s Julie Bowen) warning on Halloween and has a run-in with the “Sweet Sixteen Killer,” responsible for killing three teens 35 years prior, who has returned to claim his fourth victim.

As she runs for her life, she accidentally travels back to 1987 and teams up with the teen version of her mom, played by Holt, to stop the serial killer and save the day, all before she’s stuck in the past forever.

Does the idea of literally changing the course of events go against every time-traveling rule in the book? Yes. But are we completely into the premise and convinced that Shipka, the queen of the horror genre, will go above and beyond to deliver a film worthy of being considered a Halloween classic? Also yes.

The wacky plot has us hooked, and in addition to Shipka, Holt, and Bowen, the cast also includes Fresh Off the Boat’s Randall Park, Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale’s very own serial killer Hal Cooper/Black aka Black Hood), and Big Skys Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson.

Prime Video hasn’t dropped the trailer yet—though we’re patiently waiting for it—the first look photos offer a glimpse at all the spooky shenanigans in action.

One photo finds Shipka’s Julie trying to blend in and navigate the outrageous and unfamiliar culture of the ’80s while chatting up her mom (with larger-than-life hair) and her group of friends.

Another sees Holt’s character screaming as the masked killer approaches her, while a third reveals Park will tap into the role of a Sheriff/Officer likely investigating the killer and murders in town.  He definitely seems like he’s suspicious of something, right?

There’s also a shot of Bowen as Jamie’s adult mom, along with a snap of Jamie and her teen mom absolutely terrified.

Hocus Pocus—Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween Lineup Is Finally Here!

Published

on

It’s back, my pretties—it’s that time of the year—Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween lineup has officially dropped.

The network welcomed “spooky season” on August 31, unleashing plenty of spooktastic titles as part of their October lineup.

“Get ready for 31 Nights of Halloween with this spellbinding lineup. Watch all October,” the Instagram post caption read.

And there’s plenty to be excited about. Naturally, Hocus Pocus (the original one) has made its way on the schedule, kicking off the festivities on October 1 and appearing on the schedule a handful of times throughout the month.

Other beloved classics include Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family, and Hotel Transylvania

Fans can also look forward to some Disney originals like Halloweentown (one of the best, if I do say so myself), along with Twitches and Twitches Too

Kids can look forward to Monsters, Inc., Cruella, Spider-Man 2 and 3, along with The Amazing Spider-Man

And before there was 2023’s Haunted Mansion, there was The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy, which is a must-watch if you’ve never seen it.

Plus, there’s the Freeform premieres of Encanto, Zombies, and Zombies 2.

“Over the last 25 years, our viewers have grown up with ’31 Nights of Halloween’ as a time-honored tradition to watch Halloween favorites and connect with their loved ones during this special time of the season,” said Simran Sethi, EVP of Programming and Content Strategy, ABC Entertainment and Freeform, adding,  “There’s something sentimental about these holiday classics that brings a real sense of comfort and nostalgia to people, and we look forward to celebrating this anniversary with another spirited lineup.”

All in all, it’s a stacked lineup that will keep you in the Halloween spirit from the moment the clock strikes midnight on October 1.
