Scream – When a Stranger Calls (2×12)

EMMA AND KIERAN EPISODE 212

Published

on

And we’re down to the Lakewood 5. Yes, in this intense season finale of Scream, we finally found out who the second masked killer was and surprise, it was someone we all trusted very much.

STOP READING if you haven’t watch the season finale of season 2. SPOILERS AHEAD!

We kicked off the finale of Scream with Audrey and Emma in the back of the squad car being accused for the Mayor’s murder. Of course all of their friends, including Brooke, know that they didn’t do it but the cops in Lakewood aren’t the brightest.

On the way to the station, the cop swerves to avoid hitting ghost face, who brutally murders him before giving Audrey and Emma the keys to escape. A massive manhunt begins as the girls try to run to safety. During a brief stop at the gas station, ghost face calls to warn the girls that if they tell anyone or turn themselves in, he’ll kill someone they love.

So of course, Emma and Audrey hop over to Kieran’s house so that Emma can tell him how scared she is. Clearly, she didn’t understand the point of “keep your mouth shut.” The two decide to go hang out at the movie theater since it doesn’t open until later and Brooke, Noah and Kieran all join in. At this point, Brooke receives a call from ghost face and Emma, fed up with the constant fear and running, tells him to come meet them at the theater.

Everyone is on guard duty waiting for the killer to come and “end this once and for all.” The only person that does show up however is Stavo who claims he got a text message from Brooke. That’s when the movie of every person ghost face has killed starts playing on the big screen. Clearly, the killer must have been inside the whole time. As Emma goes to shut it off, ghost face sneaks up behind Brooke and stabs her.

A lot starts happening here. Kieran tells Emma that Audrey has dissapeared and tells Emma to run from the cops while he holds a bleeding Brooke. At the hospital, Brooke is listed in “critical condition” and Emma blames herself. However, she’s still on the run and needs to find Audrey. That isn’t a problem however because ghost face sends her a picture of Audrey, who seems to be chained up in the children’s home where Piper grew up.

Ghost face orders Emma to go there by herself or warns that more people will get hurt. Before going into battle, Emma calls Kieran and they both exchange heartfelt “i love you’s.” Inside, she finds Audrey but before she can unchain her, Kieran runs through the door. He claims that Noah pinged his phone and found her location and it seems believable but suddenly Eli also runs inside, bleeding out and claiming he got stabbed by the killer.

Everything gets really confusing for Emma as both Kieran and Eli start placing the blame on each other. Eli has been the shady one since the beginning and Kieran has warned Emma about him so Emma shoots Eli thinking he’s the killer.

Kieran commands her for it explaining that with him gone neither her nor Audrey “have to feel scared again.” Emma realizes that’s EXACTLY the same thing ghost face just said to her on the phone and puts two and two together – Kieran is the killer. He tries to play dumb for a little before really going full 360  in character and admitting that he’s been the one torturing her and killing all of her friends.

WHO THE HECK SAW THAT COMING? I’ve always “suspected” that maybe Kieran was bad but I never actually believed it. Especially because we’ve never seen the “psycho” side of him!

Basically, Kieran admits that he was in love with Piper. They were both abandoned children with a need for revenge and they found that through killing. So yeah, Audrey may have brought Piper to Lakewood but heck, Kieran was her accomplice all along. When Emma and Audrey killed her on the dock, they became his next targets. He was right in front of ALL OF US this whole time and none of us saw it coming. Although I have to admit, if you think about it, he was EVERYWHERE that the killer made an appearance. I mean, even when they unmasked him at that fun house and Emma almost shot him, she was so worried but he just played then all so well. I mean, he was so twisted he even killed his own father because you know, daddy issues.

Kieran promises to kill both Audrey and Emma but Emma makes a break for it. I was a little confused by this whole moment because ghost face had no problem just slaying everyone but Kieran hesitated multiple times with Audrey. Maybe it really was to get to Emma. I don’t know. Regardless, Emma ambushed him and was able to get his gun. From there, Audrey locked him into a chokehold and Emma held a gun right to his forehead, deciding not to fire it. Instead, she waited until the cops showed up and made him “suffer” for the rest of his life in jail.

Three months after Kieran’s killing spree, Lakewood was a pretty enjoyable place. Everyone seemed to move on in a healthy manner. Things were working out between Brooke and Stavo and he even managed to mend his relationship with his father. Emma and Audrey’s friendship was stronger than ever and they even went to the movies.

But this is Murderville you know. After 3 months of peace, Kieran received a call in prison. On the other line – the creepy ghost face voice that said, “who told you you could use my mask?” Is that really Brandon James? Is he still alive after all this time? Will he want revenge on Kieran? Or will Emma continue to be the target in season 3?

Chilling TV Shows to Watch on Friday the 13th

Happy Friday the 13th.

If you’re in the mood to get your mind off of reality (we can’t blame you, we’re all tired of hearing about coronavirus) and watch some scary TV shows, we have just the thing.

While horror used to be a big-screen format, it has found a home on small-screens with shows eager to push forward complex and psychological mysteries, apocalyptic themed-themes, classic slasher tropes, and, for good measure, old fashioned jump scares.

Check out our list of Friday the 13 TV shows to watch!

Riverdale – The CW

Forget Freddie, Jason, and Michael, Riverdale has the Black Hood, the Gargoyle King, and Edgar Evernever. Riverdale, a town best known by its nickname “murder capital of the world,” is filled with murder mysteries and serial killers, and you never know if what you’re watching is what’s really happening.

Haunting of House Hill – Netflix

There’s nothing scarier than moving into a creaky, old house with your five children. Add in that the house begins to have paranormal experiences that haunt the family simply looking to make a quick buck from a house-flip and you have one of the scariest shows on Netflix. Keep the lights on, you’ll need ‘em.

Scream – MTV/ BET

We hope you remember Ghostface because he’s back this time in a TV series adaptation of the horror film franchise. The MTV series centered around a brutal murder in Lakewood that stirs up memories of a crime spree from the past. The masked killer is out for blood and revenge and leads you on a fun and twisted game of whodunnit.

Nancy Drew – The CW

Your favorite sleuthing book detective has made her way to the small screen. Horseshoe Bay is a town plagued by unsettled and ghostly spirits, but one reigns supreme: Lucy Sable. The Seaqueen was murdered in 2000 and has become somewhat of an urban legend until Nancy and her friends, the Drew Crew, decided to solve her mysterious death when it intertwined with another, connected murder.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Netflix

The series will leave you praising Satan! Sabrina Spellman lives on the other side of the Sweetwater River in Greendale, the neighboring town of Riverdale. Sabrina is a half-watch, half-mortal who finds herself fighting against dark forces from the occult that threatens her human world.

The Exorcist – FOX

If the film scared you, the series will give you nightmares. Angela Rance turns to Father Tomas Ortego, a church leader in Chicago, for help battling the evil emitting from inside their house and causing nightmares and psychotic breaks.

American Horror Story – FOX

The anthology series from Ryan Murphy finds each season diving into a new disturbing and gruesome storyline though the actors appear in multiple episodes as new characters. Many elements of the plot are pulled loosely from real events, which makes it even more terrifying. To help you get a general idea, “Murder House,” “Asylum,” “Coven,” “Freakshow,” and “Hotel” are all different seasons to indulge in… if you dare.

Black Mirror – Netflix

When I was a little girl, the Twilight Zone series terrified me, but Black Mirror amplifies the genre by “tapping into the collective unease about the modern world.” In short, it examines modern society through the lens of technology, and there’s nothing scarier than being hit with a dose of realism. Each episode is a stand-alone drama, so you don’t have to watch it all at once.

Tell Me A Story – CBS All Access

These aren’t the fairy tales you’re used to. The anthology series, hailing from The Vampire Diaries’ Kevin Williamson, is a dark and twisted take on your favorite fairy tales as they emphasize qualities like greed, lust, murder, and revenge. Season 1 digs into “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Three Little Pigs,” and “Hansel and Gretel,” while season 2 taps into “Beauty and the Beast,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella.”

The Purge – FX

Based off a film of the same name, the TV series explores what happens to a society when murder and all crime becomes legal for a 12-hour period. Seemingly unconnected characters cross paths, but can they be trusted on Purge Night or are they all just playing the game?

Les Revenants (The Returned) – A&E Network

When a group of men, women, and children return home to their village, they’re met with confusion as they’ve been dead for several years. A series of murder coincide with their return that seem connected to a serial killer from the past.

“Scream” Takes Multiple Victims During Halloween Special

Scream Halloween special

It’s official, I am never going to visit an island.

That being said the Lakewood 5 plus Stavo did during Scream’s 2-hour Halloween special and found out something gruesome – no matter what, they’ll never be able to escape the murders. But while it may have been another nightmare for them, it was a guilt-free treat for us. Especially because 10 minutes into the episode, we KNEW who the killer was.

It was the poor man’s Kieran. The reason they keep getting into these “unwelcome” situations is part Emma’s fault. She keeps falling in love with dudes who seriously scream “KILLER.” Case and point – Alex Whitten aka the poor man’s Kieran. Alex is the good looking dude, with blonde slicked back hair, a leather jacket and a free attitude… all clear hints at Kieran. We all knew it, Emma didn’t. This girl really needs a radar.

Emma isn’t completely at fault though. Because of everything that’s happened, these 6 teens are a target for a bunch of psychos… not only did they survive one killer in Lakewood, they survived TWO. And 3 if you count whoever murdered Kieran at the courthouse. So knowing that they literally can’t catch a break, why did they go to an island dubbed murder island? Bad judgement on their part and the perfect opportunity for whoever wants to take a stab at well, stabbing them.

The one good thing that came from the murders? Noah is a best selling author for his book based on all the killings in his hometown. His publisher, Jeremy, insists he break that “writers block” and offers to take them on a trip to get inspiration from another chilling murder story – Anne Hobbs, who as legend has it, killed her whole family in a fit of rage while wearing a bag over her head. Dramatic.

Noah is hesitant but with Kieran’s death looming over the city, Emma is dying for an escape. No pun intended. I guess it can’t be easy to be in a murder town for Halloween as the girlfriend of the crazed killer. Emma’s got a pretty bad rep for herself.

So off to murder island they go. That’s not really what it’s called but it might as well be. Everyone is having a good old time until they aren’t able to locate Jeremy, the prankster who thought it was funny to wear a Hobbs mask and scare a bunch of survivors. He had it coming honestly.

Shortly after, Billie, who lives in the caretaker’s house, is found dead, in the same way Hobbs’ victims were. Then Emma gets a call from the “Scream” voice who promises she’ll never get rid of him. Here we go again.

And so we’re 100% cliche, a huge storm is headed their way and everyone’s a little freaked out by the whole “murder” situation repeating itself for the umteenth time. Gina arrives right smack in the middle to surprise her GF Audrey but freaks out after finding the Sheriff’s head on the front porch. With no cell service and no way off the island, the gang turns to Alex, who has a boat at the dock.

He drives them out there but SURPRISE, his boat has been stolen, so instead, he allows them to take up residence in the Whitten mansion. Everyone’s on edge because you know, there’s a killer on the loose and it very well might be the person who finished off Kieran in a secure holding cell.

A lot of things start happening at once – Jeremy arrives but nobody believes that he’s 100% innocent so they lock him inside a bathroom. Audrey freaks out on Gina because she finds out she arrived on the island a lot early than she said and was taking pictures of her and Emma during “girl time.” Stavo and Noah get their McGayver on and try to get an old radio to work to call in some help.

When the power goes out, Stavo, Audrey, Brooke and Noah end up in the master bedroom and that’s where we finally begin seeing the observant Noah we all and love. He wasn’t feeling motivated for another novel out of “survivors guilt” and he didn’t like the story of Anne Hobb’s because it was too “ghost story.” When he actually gets a look at the room, he finds a secret tunnel and realizes that Anne Hobbs wasn’t crazy. In fact, her father had a wandering eye, tried to come onto her, her mother tried to defend her, her father killed the mom and her brother, she in turn killed him, then died herself. They also find Jeremy dead, killed by the dude posing to be Alex Whitten, confirmed by a picture of the REAL Alex.

“If that’s not Alex, who’s with Emma now,” Brooke wonders. Well great question guys. So much for leaving your best friend with a dude you barely know. I mean, you’d think that they’d have learned from Kieran. They were literally BFFS with him and he was the killer, so what can you expect from a dude you’ve never met?

But Emma is a survivor. She doesn’t know it, but she’s much stronger and smarter than anyone believes. At first she falls victim to Alex’s kindness. He tells her to stay safely in the room while he “checks things out” and then she’s attacked by the Hobbs masked killer. He comes back shortly after looking worried but turns on “psycho mode” quickly when she finds the real Alex’s body. “You’re not the real Alex,” she states. Bingo.

Long story short, this twisted dude named Tom saw her story on the news and felt a “connection” because he felt they were going through the same thing. His parents were murdered when he was 4 and he was attacked by the media. When he saw Emma, he hatched this plan to bring her to the island so she would fall in love with him. He spread the word about the Hobbs murder to Jeremy, who brought the gang down then posed as Alex Whitten because he knew “Emma loved bad boys.” Then he began killing off anyone who knew the real Alex and could ruin his disguise.

Emma decides to play it cool, acting exactly the way Tom would want her too. She pretends to be impressed that he’s killed all these people for her, she cradles in his arms and tells him she’d love to run away and pretend to be someone new. Props to Emma for not completely freaking out. Then, when she has the chance, she knees him in the balls, hides, stabs him from behind and lures him out to the balcony where she finally, FINALLY, find the fighter inside. She’s not a victim, she’s Emma fricking Duval. And with that, Tom lunges at her, falls over the banister and dies. Oh and the rest of the group comes running from the underground tunnel. Thanks for making it out you guys.

Another murder mystery in the books. Emma found her sense of self, realizing she couldn’t run away from her problems, she had to face them head on which meant embracing who she was – a survivor, hero and a Duval. She even applied to a college in Lakewood! No matter how much you think you’re over it though, you have to be seriously deranged to stay in that town, just saying.

Meanwhile, Noah got over his writer’s guilt seeing that many times, victims didn’t have a way to tell their story. As a survivor, he did and he would. Now that really is taking a lemon and making lemonade.

Stavo and Brooke  decided they’d be going to New York together. Audrey gave jealous Gina a second chance because she’s know to make bad decisions once or twice.

But the FINAL mystery is only just beginning. You see Tom may have been psychotic, murderish and obsessive, but he didn’t finish off Kieran. That means, someone in the Scream mask did. Was it Brandon James? Was it Emma’s dad? We’ll find out in the 6-episode season 3 hopefully.

Thoughts on the Halloween episode?
