Ratings: AHS Renewed for Season 5, Walking Dead Sets Record With Premiere
Two shows really killing it (no pun intended) in ratings– American Horror Story: Freakshow and The Walking Dead!
Wednesday’s Freakshow premiere drew in 6.1 million viewer, with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Both highs for the franchise.
With 3+ ratings included, the premiere garnered 10 million total viewers, making it the most watched premiere in FX history!
Last year’s Coven premiere debuted to 7.27 million, so this season is already up 38%.
And that’s not even the most exciting part. The success of season 4 prompted FX to renew AHS for a fifth installment due October 2015. Honestly, can you imagine Halloween month without Ryan Murphy’s creepiness?
The always sneaky co-creator told EW he’s already planted clues for next seasons theme, in the first two episodes of Freakshow. Has anyone spotted anything that gives yet?
The Walking Dead is shattering cable ratings.
Aside from blood, gut and gore, the season 5 premiere also drew over 17 million zombie-loving viewers! It was the shows best performance to date.
11 million of those viewers were in the key 18-49 demographic.
Shows have been struggling to keep live viewers, so this is a huge feat for a show.
The zombie-drama even beat NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Fox’s NFL, which usually attracts the widest live audience, for obvious reasons.
The Walking Dead obviously had no problem.
AMC President Charlie Collier issued a celebratory statement writing, The Walking Dead is one of those increasingly rare shows today that can command a live audience not significantly cannibalized by time-shifted viewing,” Collier”
The cable network projects that the episode will exceed 22-million viewers, when DVR viewership is included.
Viewership has risen by a lot since the series first premiered on Halloween four years ago. Back then, the premiere only score 5.3 million viewers, which was still good, and still a record for AMC at the time.
The season 5 premiere brought in almost 2 more million viewers than last years finale.
The episode is ranked as TV’s most popular telecast ever, beating out the previous record holder- Disney Channel’s High School Musical 2.
